  1. I have to say this is one of the oddest looks back I have encountered in a while Steve Hart. 97, 98 and 99 had me fuming over the advice, as well as a few others and some of the advice sounded down right dangerous for a young single woman to undertake.

Thanks for the reminder that women were not taken seriously back then and have only come a short distance to now really. : )

  2. Margaret Siemers yes indeed, I should have said funny and horrible. It's hard to imagine some of this really was printed.

  3. Steve Hart I hope I didn't sound accusatory toward you, it was the thinking back then I was bruning over. It is funny in the sense that people would actually believe some of this stuff. I should have taken a breath and counted to 10 to let some of my angst leave me.

  4. No worries, btw, what's a Phi Beta Kappa key anyway? Some sorority thing?

  5. Yes, Steve Hart and it meant that you were an intelligent woman, something that was to be downplayed back then. Men could not take women smarter or attaining a higher income then them...has that changed any? Let's hope so.

  6. I'll admit that I think these tips are hilarious, as ridiculous and demeaning as they were. Who in their right mind would ever volunteer for jury duty for ANY reason! Note that the magazine cover also features 3 Women of Courage by Sen. JFK.
