Tomorrow being our National Day of Thanksgiving in the USA, I wanted to take a moment and share some of the things I am truly thankful for and invite everyone to also reflect here with us on the things you have gratitude for. (Family, Friends, Life itself?)

My first, and long overdue, Thanks is for the wonderful hands of Tom Brydon, Oshi Shikigami Laurent Truillet and Evelon Burley that helped to keep things going smoothly for all of you while I have been M.I.A. for the past year. There is more to the job of Moderator than you may know, but because they were wonderfully diligent in taking care of things for me you never even knew I wasn't around. I want to also give my thanks for friends like Ann Kennedy Trucker Kev The Paid Tourist and John T that knew my situation and helped to keep the conversations flowing. I consider you each Honorary Moderators.

I am thankful for all of the members here, because you have given meaning to this Community and the sharing of Memories of the past. Weather you know it or not, you have all been a blessing to me and I can't thank you enough for being here.

And in closing, I am Greatly Thankful for Cat gifs. Where would we all be without them.

Enjoy The Day Tomorrow Everyone!

  1. Thank you, Margaret! Among my blessings I count you. I am so hoping we can all gather on another platform when the time comes to bid farewell to our G+ communities!

  2. Trucker Kev The Paid Tourist Thank You, I will. Spending the day with my daughters and their families. And I get to scarf the leftovers from them this year, what could be better than not cooking a Turkey on Thursday and having Turkey Sandwiches on Friday?

  3. Steve Hart Thank you Steve, and do forgive my not mentioning you above. Blame it on a Senior moment please, how could I not be blessed to have you here? You were also so helpful with posting and commenting, please also accept the Honorary Moderator badge and I will throw in the extra cudo of "suprema maxumus".

  4. Ann Kennedy My rock, my touchstone, my calm center. You and your Mom, always in my heart keeping me balanced this last year.
Yes, we will find a place to gather together there is no reason not to.

  5. Margaret Siemers There's nothing to worry over. Thanks for the honorary badge. I've been around since the group was founded but I certainly don't post as often as our other more active members.

  8. INDIA STREET ANTIQUES / DANISH MODERN SAN DIEGO I have to agree that we are blessed with some of the best folks on the internet taking part in this Community. I count you among those "best folks" each time I see you appear around G+, we do tend to frequent the same places ; ) You are always so upbeat and cheerful in everything you do. It's a pleasure to have you here and I honestly do feel honored by your comment.

    Hi Margaret,

I'm sorry that I haven't commented this post earlier, but it's all because of G+. In fact, I have never found a method for keeping a post "alive" after I read it from the notifications. Once a post is read, it disappears into the jungle of all the other posts, recent or old, waiting or not for a reply.

As to my role as moderator, I must say that I really enjoyed it. I have had many good reasons to refuse a candidate. One of them said his job was making fake passports and identity documents (with photos to prove it !). Another one was only interested in weapons, and I think his love for Kalachnikovs and other killing machines didn't match the spirit our community. I was also probably an idiot to refuse a few beautiful girls urgently wanting to meet me ! But the highest number of refusals concerned fake accounts containing no informations at all on the candidates. Fortunately, on the other hand, I have accepted a few interesting people who seemed to be born to enter "Vintage Life".

Concerning the future of our community, it's the kind of hope that you write on a piece of paper, put in a bottle and throw into the sea. Anyway, I keep my fingers (and my toes) crossed. It'll soon be Christmas, after all !

  10. Laurent Truillet the only way to really keep a post alive is if somebody comments on that particular post then the post basically comes back to life or you simply scroll through the Community feed looking and finding the post somebody put up or others have but as far as keeping it alive in your notifications before it gets buried that's what you have to do you just have to comment on a particular post that you have either one plus store made a comment on and then that will basically like I said make the post come alive again... so if you look at a post from like somebody finds a post from a year ago and they make a comment and it was one of yours then next thing you know the person who posted it will get a notification

Thanks for having taken the trouble to write this explanation. I shall try it just by curiosity, but for how long?

  12. Laurent Truillet anytime. I've got notifications that somebody either one plussed a post or made a comment on something from last year I'm like oh I remember when I posted that...the only way you won't know is if some people I don't know why I after they make a post they mute it or they disable comments but as long as you never muted the post in the comments were never disabled it's no problem at all you can reactivate it like if you were to go through probably the Vintage Community feed picking some categories on something you see posted a year ago and put a comment up odds are it's going to go into that person's notification and they will see somebody commented on that said particular post and you can feel free to comment again

  13. That's all true, and thank you Trucker Kev The Paid Tourist. Did you (and Laurent Truillet and anyone else looking in) know that you can see all of your past notifications when you are logged into G+? Not talking about the community itself, but your feed. At the bottom of the dropdowns on the left (ie: Home, Discover, Communities, Profile, People, Circle Streams) is a Bell beside the word Notifications.

If you click on that you can see every notice to you out of G+ all the way back to when God Created light! OK, perhaps not that long ago but you get the idea.

I haven't played with it much, because I use "gmail" (Google's email platform) which I have connected to my G+ account and it has a category where all of my "notices" from G+ go to automatically. It is much easier to deal with, and I can save or delete as I want. Trust me, it can fill up amazingly fast and I find I delete several thousand notices per month. (what can I say, I follow lots of folks and talk too much.) Not having been online anywhere for a long while has trimmed it down to about 5 or 6 a day. (It was calm bliss for a bit)

Also because I use Google Chrome as my browser I get that bell at the top of my page on the information bar, clicking on it gives me the posts of those I have been active with, and any older post that I had made that got new comments.

Now I have no idea if this works the same with other browsers (I also have Windows as my operating system, and Oh my I can even get notices there without being online. It's a bit of overkill, and I forget to click on half of the things I just told you about above. I also have no idea what European Countries allow for notices as your privacy rules are different over there, but I wanted to outline some of the ways you can capture your Notifications that I know of.

I am also sure that you can check on your Google settings to see if you are allowing all of the notifications you had wanted.

    I hope this helped too.

  14. Laurent Truillet, I wanted to make a separate comment on yours above about Moderating.

You did just fine for never having moderated before. I could not have done better myself, and my gratitude is endless for all of the work you and the others put into taking care of our Community.

I honestly don't feel like it's "my" community, it would not be what it is without people like you sharing history that is never written about in books. The history that has been lived is an inspiration to myself and I hope everyone here.

This is why I am keeping my eyes and ears open for the next place we call home. At the very least, I hope to find a place we can post, and comment together on and that can have the privacy our "Ask To Join" community enjoys. (That little perk has kept the Lovely Young Ladies you talked about from sharing their, um shall we say, Assets with us.

I have two in mind, and am keeping an eye on them to see if they will be what we want. Just now with the Holidays it is too much to deal with, and Google has not (as far as I know) said much about moving things. I am however told by reputable G+ and Google employees that this will be coming with detailed instructions that even I can understand. So fear not, Mother is keeping an eye out for us all.
    : )
