On a recent visit to the TWA Museum in Kansas City, Missouri, I took some photos to share. Unfortunately most items are behind glass, so I apologize for the glare. Pictured are "Hostess" uniforms from the Blue Gabardine suit known as the "cut out", to the disposable paper dresses used for a few months of 1968 for TWA's "Foreign Accent" flights offering themes of Italy, France, Britain and the US. Those dresses were titled Manhattan Penthouse PJs, the French Gold Lame Cocktail Mini, the Italian Toga and the Olde English Wench.

See also some metal toys, food services from the 1930s and the First Class food service items of Rosenthal china from the 1970s.

Last, enjoy the interior of the lovely N77C.

  1. Thanks for sharing! I enjoy transportation history. I have two original blue gabardine TWA uniforms, complete with skirts, jackets, blouses, hats, and the care brochures. I will have to dig them out and post!

  7. How cool! I loved traveling on TWA when I was young. Last flight I took though, one of the engines fell off into the Atlantic. I guess that was in their decline phase. Two nights in Shannon, it was worth it.

  8. Fascinating, love the photos. All I've had recently on flights is plastic cutlery, none of that posh silver service! Your photos are going back to a time when flying was a pleasure, so different nowadays. Thanks Ann.

  9. The one attendant's outfit, looked almost like a kimono or yukata. :-)

  10. Brian Christian Yes, it was a great airline in its day. If I was on a flight and an engine fell off, that would probably be my last flight:-) Thanks, Brian!

  11. Oshi Shikigami That is exactly what I thought, Oshi. That's their Italian toga, and it looks more convincing with the strappy sandals that went with it.

  12. Mike Perry Thanks, Mike. I don't enjoy flying anymore, but sometimes it's a necessity. It used to be very pleasant and relaxing. I still have a small flight bag that they used to give out to kids:-) Glad you enjoyed the pictures!

  13. Brian Christian Egads! How did the staff handle that situation?

  14. INDIA STREET ANTIQUES / DANISH MODERN SAN DIEGO The crew exhibited sheer terror though the passengers were okay

  15. Brian Christian I figured they would be trained to remain calm and assist in calming the passengers.
