The end of the Telegraph in France.
The end of the Telegraph in France.
France Telecom has announced that the telegraph service in France has been discontinued as from April 30th, at 23:59.
It's crazy to think that there were still some messages sent in the Morse alphabet nowadays ! Most employees in France Telecom didn't even know that this service existed. It started in 1879 !

Amazing!! I wonder who was still using this service!

ReplyDeleteI read that the telegraph was still used in some legal matters where a certified date was required.
Anyone who knows Morse code will always be able to communicate. Ham radio operators are still active users here.
ReplyDeleteAnd you just know someone, somewhere is going to make a disaster movie where the world is saved because someone, somewhere knew how to use Morse Code.
ReplyDeleteWonderful post Laurent Truillet. Jokes aside, I am kinda sad to see this go.
