An unusual look at the children of France that were displaced and mostly orphaned by the horrendous fighting that went on there during WWI. That was 100 years ago, but the tragedy of war is still the same. The children suffer the most no matter what the year.
Won't you walk back through time with me and see how much bravery and will to survive they had, how the generosity of the American Troops helped them survive and how the American Red Cross gave comfort when needed the most.

It is a incredible they survived, and doubly so, to have been able to live some semblance of a normal life - or humanity.
ReplyDeleteThese children were the antithesis, of what we seem to have now. They Asked almost nothing, and were capable of incredible feats of self reliance. I doubt many of our latest generations could have done anywhere near the same.
Margaret Siemers Thank you so much for sharing these photos. I'm too moved to comment more...
ReplyDeleteIn addition to the immense emotion these images and captions gave me, they leave me wishing I knew the continued stories of each of these people. It also reminds me of our inhumanity, as well as our humanity. Thanks, Margaret.
ReplyDeleteGreat stories to supplement the images.
ReplyDeleteThe great quality of these images gets you even closer to the story they tell. But every time I am reminded of these tragedies, I cannot help thinking that a few men on earth today are ready and willing to start again.

ReplyDeleteI think I went through and thought everything you all are saying about this story also. Heartbreaking photos, wondering how the children made it through life after the war. I doubt any are still with us to let us know.
It is worrisome to think that we sit on the edge of another disastrous war judging from the saber rattling being done by some of the world leaders, and I wondered if this country could survive doing without as our past generations have done.
Let's all say a prayer for peace and the prosperous world we can have if we can just set aside our differences and work toward seeing the best in every nation.
Amazing photos. Thanks for sharing.
