My front yard on the first day of Spring.

My front yard on the first day of Spring. I am sharing this with you all here in my home away from home because it just feels right to do so. And because it is also #InternationalDayOfHappiness day.

Originally shared by Margaret Siemers (Siemers Rafter Room)

It's the first day of Spring, and it is also the #InternationalDayofHappiness as declared by United Nations to raise global awareness of happiness as a fundamental human goal. Why? Because absolutely every last person on the face of this planet deserves to be happy.

So why show you a snow scene today of all days? Because happiness is a feeling and feelings are choices. (let that sink in a moment)

This is the weather I see when I look out my front door on this first day of spring. Not flowers and Robbins as it should be at this time of year where I live, but the first day of a predicted two day snow storm on the Eastern Coast of the U.S.A. and I have a choice as to how I want to feel about this day. I didn't start out feeling happy, I started the day thinking about the shoveling I will have to do, and the bother a major snow storm can cause. Lets face it, snowy days are overcast and kinda glum too.

Enter finding out about this day "International Day Of Happiness" and #HappierPlace and it made all the difference in how I felt about today. I wanted to share that with all of you here because this community is filled with good people that perhaps could use a smile today, like I did.

Happy Spring!

  1. I spent over a half century in Michigan (above the rust belt) and my springs were noted, after we found the fist robin, frozen on the ground.

I have spent almost a decade since, in Florida (well below the rust belt). My new spring indicator is when I no longer wear long sleeves on my tops.

Now, The weather brings me joy. Joy for well over 3/4 of the year. And, guess what? I feel happy a lot more now. Yes, I have down days. But my "up" days are far, far more.

For you, it could be entirely different. But, for myself, I found my road to happiness, paved with sunshine...

  2. Oshi Shikigami A Robbin frozen on the ground! Wow, that's rough weather for sure. And I love sunshine too, in fact as I am sure you know sunny days are easier on old bones and maladies. I guess I was trying to say we can choose to be happy, and then spread that feeling around a bit and perhaps help someone else smile too.
There is entirely too much gloom in the world right now, and the International Day Of Happiness was created to Lighten that up even if only for a moment.
Hugs to you Oshi Shikigami, you always make me smile. : )

  3. Darran Hughes It is that, Just yesterday the sun was shining and the temp was around 55 degrees out, and early spring flowers were blooming. today it is 28 degrees. It's a transition month for sure.

  4. While a snowy day can be glum, think back to the Snow Days of our childhoods and those were pure pleasure! I'm happy today that you're happy in spite of the forecast and the reality of cold, heavy wet stuff all over the place:-) Your snowy views are beautiful!

  5. Ann Kennedy What is scary snowy days of childhood thanks to climate change don't even sometimes come anymore..Living in Chicago whole life 1 big dumping of snow this year last year nothing..Yet down in South more snow in last 3 yrs then they got ever prior to 1990. Just scary and strange.
Margaret Siemers At least trying to be happy with it. Wow 4 or 5 Noreasters this late in season though😨

  6. Ann Kennedy You know it! Snow was always an unplanned holiday from school for kids. We would build sled runs from our front porch, down the knoll in the front yard past the Outhouse (it was Kid tradition to throw a pre-assembled snowball at the door as you passed it on your first run) Under the barbwire fence (raised by a sturdy stick) and down the pasture beyond it to the creek bank, so much fun.
Now I just look out at the beauty and muse over installing a boot scrap outside my door. ; )

  7. Trucker Kev The Paid Tourist I think this is the fourth, and I had read where we should get used to seeing Noreasters due to changes in weather patterns. Even if this could remotely, possibly be a natural change, it is worrying and we do need to watch our carbon footprints so we don't help it along any.

  8. My yard looks much the same right now and the warm weather, when it finally gets here will be very welcome. My youngest son had a soccer game Sunday amidst piles of snirt (snow/dirt).https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/4Fj46Fl6yCI1E1IwmwUPt9B_3LVWDqx5s7ojjv4L2bhDK79HU6uc-T3qqJi0eYD3eeSHa_sbdk2Ornsof76f_X7gk31WZ3plnxaC=s0

  10. When wet snow sticks to the trees like that it's very pretty

  11. Steve Hart Wow, it is beautiful in your yard. Here, this morning as the sun came over the hill it was amazing to see the trees shedding the snow. It was almost as if they were yawning and stretching to say, "OK, time to get out from under the covers and wake up." I hope so, the weather says temps in the high 40s today. Just fine with me.

  12. Scott Clute Thank you! We love everyone in this community, so you are loved too. AND...

If you can manage it, you may want to add some kind of photo to your avatar. What you have now is commonly referred to as a "Blue Head". Blue Heads are not usually liked by Communities. This is because people that have them often like to fill communities with Spam posts and talk smack. We do look at our prospective members profiles to see if they are more or less someone that can be a contribution to the community. Sometimes, as in your profile, a Blue Head turns out to be just a person that doesn't understand this. And it is why I am mentioning it. Any kind of photo will do, it doesn't have to be a picture of you or any person. If you aren't sure how to add a picture here's a link to the official Google information you need. Just being my helpful little self, hope you don't mind. : )
