  2. You know, I am glad you said something on this Ann Kennedy, because I wanted to tell David Bennett I really enjoyed the birdhouse looking Gingerbread wood workings on the building. And ask if it was a birdhouse or just interesting woodwork. The question got away from me when something else needed my attention. It is a lovely post, and I enjoy all of David's offerings.

  3. Thank you Margaret Siemers I enjoy these places that celebrate nostalgia and this one "The Black Country Museum" is one of the best.
Situated at Dudley, a suburb of Birmingham in England, it celebrates the life & times of that area during the Industrial Revolution. Dudley and Birmingham were at the heart of the revolution and the whole area was a maelstrom of engineering works, steelworks, the development of the steam engine etc. Because of this concentration of industrial machinery being driven by coal powered steam engines the whole area for miles around was covered in dirty black smoke, ash and general "muck", hence the name, "The Black Country" which Birmingham and the whole of the midland counties became known as.

  4. Margaret Siemers What I should have mentioned is that none of the buildings, houses or shops on the museum site existed there in the past. They were collected from all around the county and rescued from demolition where redevelopment was occurring. They were dismantled brick by brick, tile by tile and every piece of the buildings numbered and transported to the museum site where they were painstakingly rebuilt to form what is now a complete town.

  5. David Bennett That is truly amazing to hear, both the reason it was called "The Black Country" and how these buildings were saved! Thank you so much for sharing that with us. As you may know, I love information like this with any post. So do always feel free to tell us all you can when you do post.
