David Bennett There is nothing wrong with a proper name bestowed on an animal. The imagination comes with interaction between owner and pet, the name is superfluous. :)
David Bennett Turd was one of those little turtles. We smuggled him in from Hawaii in a band-aid box. He was my first pet, and I always had him around when I played.
One day I was playing with the Barbie house, didn't realize he'd crawled over to me, and squished him with my knee.
It was a real shock to me, that I'd killed him through negligence.
My Dad and I buried him in the rose garden and planted an onion over him so anyone who came by would cry.
Aww terrific, David! Hammy is as good a name as any:-)

At just a bit younger than that, I had a turtle named Turd.
ReplyDeletePaula Moore that's a rather unusual name for a tortoise! I still have a tortoise that was bought for me when I was two years old, I'm now 70!
ReplyDeletePaula Moore you have cracked me up.
ReplyDeleteDavid Bennett love the hammy name of the Hamster. What I want to know is what had you named your extremely old Tortoise?
ReplyDeleteMargaret Siemers He's called Joey, not very imaginative I know.

Ooh, Paula Moore so young to learn such a hard lesson. I do like the Onion marker, I am sure that helped you feel he would be equally missed by all.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this with us, we like to hear all of the stories our friends here have, happy or sad.
Margaret Siemers I sure would love to have grown up with one like Dave's.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. That truly is wonderful he had that happen.
ReplyDeletePaula Moore that's so sad, I'd hate to lose Joey but he's still young for a tortoise. He will pro ably out live me!!! 😬
ReplyDeleteok. Apropos of burying pets, this cracked me up.
