For Darran Hughes and others who are interested. This was left in our house after some remodeling a couple of years ago and we asked everyone who worked who this belongs to and no one knew or claimed it. It's very threadbare but works beautifully. The other side of the tape is bare and there are no maker marks on it.
A lovely piece.
ReplyDeleteMy father had one much like that, about half a century ago. :-)
ReplyDeleteWe also have one very similar to yours. It is 10 meters long, and graduated in centimeters.
ReplyDeleteThe mention on it reads "Echt leder", which means "Real leather" in Dutch. (If it was German, it would read "Echter Leder !)
And if you look closely, it's my father who wrote his name on it !

Laurent Truillet I like the crank mechanism on these measuring tapes. Yours is in very nice condition.
ReplyDeleteDarran Hughes I would love for you to have it because I know you would display it perfectly somehow:-)
ReplyDeleteMy Father had one of those!
ReplyDeleteGosh, I have one of those also. It was Fred's dad's. It's my favorite to measure with. : )
ReplyDeleteI have a modern one of these in metric, this is a really old one.
ReplyDeleteAnn Kennedy I have a very old one from about 1914. It has the British army arrow on it. Constructed from leather and cloth. Now I know it's in my garage somewhere. When I dig it out I will post a picture.
