I'm sharing a blog post about a visit to Sequoia in 1960. Pictured is the other iconic drive-thru tree, known as the "Tunnel Log", which fell in the 1930s and quickly became a tourist favorite. Thanks

I'm surprised it stayed upright for another 100+ years after so much of its trunk was cut away.
ReplyDeleteAnn Kennedy Wonderful to see Ann! Thank you for the additional look at this story. After so long I suppose it is natural to feel it would last forever, but sadly we become complacent about our part in preservation of the oldest relics.
ReplyDeleteMargaret Siemers I can hardly imagine cutting through the trunk of a living tree so tourists can have the experience of driving through it, but then I don't know the full history of the circumstance at the time it was done.
ReplyDeleteSad to hear of the demise of this tree. I have relatives in Calgary and remember seeing a photo of the tree, sent to us when I was still a child.
