  1. That is sculptural! I would love to see all 30 lots in this auction.

  2. It really is. For some odd reason they don't have a link to the entire auction. I just love this kind of stuff.

  3. This is so cool to see! But to the Rank and File Membership... It's cool,
but it's kinda in a grey area. Normally an auction would be selling and not allowed. But hey, Rules are made to be bent, reshaped and sometimes broken, and I am the one that gets to say how far we bend it. My mind thinks this brings more value by being seen here than not seen. Just please remember that we aren't doing this all the time.

  4. ALSO. I went to the auction site. They don't have any more info on the sale than what they have here. Disappointing to say the least.

  5. Sorry about that Margaret Siemers. I did think about it but thought the photo and info would be of value to the community. I guess I'm lucky there wasn't a auction link. From your favorite rule-bender :)

I would have let this one even if there was a link, In fact I went to look for one.

It's sad that we can't have wonderful things like this for sale here, I know the interest is there, however that said...the sheer number of just crap out there from all over the world that would descend upon us constantly would soon degrade the community and make far too much work for me.

Trust me, I fight with spam and "what were they thinking" posts in other communities I care for all the time.

There are loads of "you can buy this" communities out there that started out nice, but now no one really interacts with except to slam another "For Sale" item on it. That isn't what we are about, so we have had to have some restrictions. At first we didn't allow blogs, but we do now if they are not sales oriented.

We honestly do get hit with so much on line, I feel it is nice to have a place to go to relax and enjoy the way it once was.

  7. Not sure here, is this a modern item or a really well looked after piece? I remember as a child that our corner shop had a bacon slicer that bore more than a passing resemblance to this piece of equipment.
Whatever, it's a cracking example of machinery which is both efficient and aesthetic to look at.

  8. This is a vintage piece. The auction has slicers and other kitchen equipment dating from 1893 to 1950. There is a photo of several Berkel slicers on the page plus a photo of the inventor.

  9. Madges Hatbox It's been well looked after then.

  10. Their opening reception is very unusual - it's a slicing demonstration at a upscale butcher shop. Hope the customers drinking white wine will stay well away from the whirling blades.

  11. David Bennett I believe it to be an original that may have been reconditioned (as in cleaned and polished) but they don't give any real information on it when you look. So... If the auction is legitimate it would be a buyer beware kind of sale unless a little more info was given.
