  1. What a story to read! The heroics of your Great Grandfather, and the courage of your Great Grandmother is epic. I enjoyed seeing the medal and the documents you show us. A wonderful tribute to your family. Hard Times and Heroes indeed.

  2. Surely you have the works for a very interesting book. I remember reading earlier about the heroism shown by your Gt. Grandfather, and "Little Gran" was certainly a strong woman. Was it your parents who told you these stories? I'm always fascinated by how we come to know about our ancestors. Wonderful post, as usual.

  3. Thank you Ann Kennedy I have sometimes considered a book, maybe I will one day. My 40s blog was instead of writing a book, the episode you refered to is coming next. It was told to me by my grand parents, my granddad was so proud of his father. You will remember why, having read it the 1st time around. My mum was not quite so complimentary, she held the belief that a man with a young wife and 4 children should have considered them first.
That chaptert is coming soon, it makes me emotional every time I read it.
