My dad in alongside his lorry at a Territorial Army Camp as WW2 had been declared. He was amongst the first to go abroad to fight.

  1. I like this photo, but hate to think of the lives the war disrupted. He came home again, right? I am hoping I remember correctly, that the photo of him you posted when he was at work with his mates was later than 39.

  2. Margaret Siemers Yes, he did come home.  The previous picture was before WW2.  My dad was in the Territorial Army and went on camp just before the war was declared.  Consequently, as he was a reserve soldier, he was called up and mobilised immediately.  My mum used to joke that her husband went camping and came home 6 years later!!
After the war he became a fisherman like hundreds of others in Grimsby.  I don't think he could settle back to a routine working life.
I'm pleased you like these photo's, I know they aren't to everyone's taste as they are only relevant to my family, but I'll slip one in from time to time.  (Maybe no-one will notice)

You just post these whenever you feel like it. Family photo's and history are highly recommended and welcomed to be shared here. No one should feel that the personal story they share isn't viewed and liked simply because of the amount of +'s and comments one gets. For the size of our community, from what Google tells us it is seen by several hundred folks that are called "lurkers". These are great members that simply enjoy seeing a post and moving on.
Besides, any of us can find an old photo or story on line, but your the only one that can show us these. You are appreciated. : )
