Yer missing one person, that looks like me and my two girlfriends walking towards a train station after we got off a bus with two belligerent drunks bothering us, we got off and walked to the train, and our feet were covered in blisters! So were our hands and we got sun burnt and it was way up North. Could have been a wonderful sight seeing tour for us, but we were too miserable and hurt to care. :)
Char S No we do NOT talk about it ever, I just remembered-- looking at those men walking with their backs to us! I dare not bring it up and grandma said we would have been skinned alive if our parents knew about it and the bus driver would have also been yelled at, we were younger and I suppose he just thought we were brats he did not want to be bothered with, my grandma called and complained nicely but said we were lucky nothing bad happened to us walking alone out there in the woods! I remember lots of big trees. We stayed on the road and ducked every time we saw a car coming, cause we were afraid of kidnappers and we scurried back and stayed on the road cause we were afraid of snakes. No nothing good to remember we were scared to death and mad and our blisters some were bleeding, we wanted to toss our bags and go barefooted now when we shop for shoes, that is a priority--comfort, carry comfort in yer bag if ya have to! Bandages too and lots of other survival stupid things, my gramma just shakes her head. Tissue for toilet paper! Big plus here! Never leave home without it! We had to keep egging each other on to get to the train before dark too! We did not want to spend the night out there. It was horrible and we learned a valuable lesson too! :))) I know we are crazy. :)
Margaret Siemers grandma said not to tell. Too young and to dumb to know we were headed for more trouble, we wanted to go the scenic route by bus along the coast from California up to Washington, me, Susan and Carol, on our summer vacation. We are going to be detectives when we grow up and we had some things to investigate and we were braver than smart back then. Yes we learned that grandma always buys a huge bag of pocket tissue for us so we can carry it in our purses, coat pockets, book bags, lockers, we got pocket tissue everywhere! :)))
Lady Sandra well, whatever the age, most of us have done things in our youth that we feel a bit of regret over. I would not let it bother you today. : )
Margaret Siemers It doesn't bother us, the photo is of two men walking with a commercial that says "should have taken the train" or whatever, I instantly thought, Hey you are missing one person, cause that's probably not too far off from what we three girls did a couple years ago. And we thought about ditching our bags and coming back for them later and decided we never wanted to come back later. We were born and reside in Honolulu and Maui, Hawaii. We are not used to the distance in the Mainland or USA.
By car you can cross Oahu from one end to the other in about 2 1/2 hours. We had absolutely no concept of how far things are apart in the Mainland USA. We could not use our cell phones because there was nothingness around us! Just forest or woods, we did use leaves to cover our blisters so we could carry our stuff and we used rocks and leaves to use the toilet. We also carried rocks and sticks for defense in case we were attacked.
We were not completely stupid. The only thing we regretted was not taking the train or packs of tissue paper! So to me this photo is a reminder of a bad idea! And I still say it COULD have been a great scenic trip along the coast by bus. But the saying goes--shoulda woulda coulda! :))
You're right frank o'shea we got so busy talking to Lady Sandra about her "memorable" stroll that we didn't see it was just as you say. Hard times back then.
I am sure they were thinking, "If only we could". Let's hope they got there and things were better for them.

ReplyDeleteLady Sandra how old were you if I may ask?
ReplyDeleteSorry about the bad experience but if you were ok at the end and learned something that is good.
