One last post to turn the page on golf trousers.
One last post to turn the page on golf trousers.
Here are my parents in my grandparents' garden in 1941 (during WW2). As you can see, my father seems to wear golf trousers any time...
But there is another story behind this photo.
The little girl in the middle was NOT my sister (I have none) nor any relative. She was a "poor girl from the city". During WW2, Liège, being an industrial town, was the target of several bombing phases. The English, the Americans and the Germans all had a go at it ! Some families in Liège did send their children to countryside homes to protect them against bombs and starvation. This little girl was taken care of by my grandparents, who were also poor, but being farmers, who were never hungry !
Your dad looks quite dapper in his golf pants. Your grandparents must have been good people to take in that little girl. I hope she and her family survived the war and were reunited at the end.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful picture and a beautiful story. I have heard stories of children who were sent to the country for safety, and can only imagine the emotion experienced by the families during that time.
ReplyDeleteIt is interesting to see and read about some of the history during that time that we never knew. Like the fashion your dad is sporting.
ReplyDeleteI think it's wonderful that your grandparents took in that child. She looks happy and healthy here. A testament to your family and the kindness passed on through you. I truly appreciate your posts Laurent Truillet
Margaret Siemers Thanks for your appreciation...
ReplyDeleteI don't know if anyone else notices it, but Spell checker is not working all the time, and my fingers get to flying faster than my mind. I changed "did" to dad, as it should have been Laurent Truillet and do forgive the typo.
ReplyDeleteMargaret Siemers I have come to assume that I WILL and that I DO make typos and that everyone knows what I mean to say, even if i mess it up:-)
ReplyDeleteAnn Kennedy Your very kind Ann, but I rely heavily on the spell check feature to make my gibberish understandable. : )
ReplyDeleteAnother great photo. During the war many children in England were packed off to the country areas with just a small suitcase and label.
