On a perfect autumn day in the small town of Boylston, MA, we located, with the help of the local historical society, the gravesites of my 6th Great Grandparents. Thanks to the find-a-grave website, the documentation was already recorded by a volunteer. Special thanks to those who give their time to photograph old burial grounds!

One of the Founding Families of Boylston, Eleazar Taylor from Marlboro, was granted Shrewsbury lot #43 in 1718 and settled here in 1729 building his home on the southerly side of Cottonwood Place. [Boylston Historical Series]

Eleazar Taylor was one of the founders of the Boylston Church. In addition, when the North Precinct of Shrewsbury was Incorporated in 1745, the first Meeting House was built, and the Old Burial Ground were both located on land acquired from Eleazar Taylor who by then owed a large part of the land in Boylston Centre. 1. Wow, Ann Kennedy! You found your sixth great grandfather! That's amazing and I'll bet you put a lot of work into this. It must have felt pretty good to have found his grave.

  2. Mike Martin We have about finished locating the Taylors with the exception of 1, our Rev. War patriot who's place of death and burial are unknown, but we know the "likely" location. So on we go...

  3. I share your excitement that you have probably found more than you were looking for. Are you now going to draw your family tree or is it done already ? Will this research enable you to add names that you didn't know to date ?

  4. That's great. I love the findagrave.com - Find A Grave - Millions of Cemetery Records website. It is a great resource. I also used ancestry.com for some family research but ran into trouble in the 1700's. The info on my 5th and 6th generation back was understandably sparse.

  5. Such a wonderful connection to have with the past Ann Kennedy I am so happy for your good fortune in finding this part of your heritage.
Here's hoping that the Gods of Good Fortune are with you and your clue about the resting place of the Patriot in your lineage (although I know they all were) pays off. Fingers crossed for you!

  6. Forgot to add that your pictures are wonderful, as usual. I love the shot of the church, which to me is the scene I think of when someone says "New England in the Fall."

  7. Laurent Truillet We know the names but this allows us to add the gravesite locations and the grave photos to the family tree.

  8. Steve Hart I find ancestry.com both helpful and frustrating. There are many, many inaccuracies since anyone can add information, unless you keep your tree private, which also has disadvantages. But it sure is a lot of fun:-)

  9. Margaret Siemers Thanks so much! I'm pretty excited with each step of the process, but I think it's a life-long project:-)

  10. Margaret Siemers Thanks alot, again! That building is the Historical Society in the little town. There was however, the typical white-steepled church just above the town green:-)
