Nobody seems to be aware of the danger of X-Rays ! The generator is behind the vertical plate. If it is properly protected by lead shielding, then the lady on the right is almost safe. The doctor is the most exposed, presuming that he carries out this exam several times a day. The womlan on the left also receives a fair share of radiations. Of course, the patient is the worst exposed, but his presence is only occasional. The white rectangle is the fluoroscopic screen where the image can be seen. It takes a lot of X-Rays to start showing something !
I have been examined by one of these vintage machines when I was a student.. The doctor had his improved method to keep a little safer. He set his medical room in complete darkness for 5 minutes, so that his eyes could get used to low light. Then he adjusted the X-Ray intensity to give the weakest but still useful image on the screen.
