Packing, packing, packing and also running into really cool old stuff!
Packing, packing, packing and also running into really cool old stuff! The last several days were spent in cleaning and boxing up old records for the Victrola. There were some of the really thick ones, and also others from the teens, 1921, the 30s and the 40s.
Here is Sweet Georgia Brown sung by "Red Hughes" and the "Radio Rascals". I couldn't find much info on this particular recording, but it seems to date from around 1932.
The volume control always makes me laugh. (The doors). A technological marvel in its day.
ReplyDeleteDarran Hughes and . . . get this -- they even had Loud, Medium, and Soft play steel needles! I ordered 300 "medium" volume needles so as not to disturb the neighbors.
ReplyDeleteI found an Edison Home Gramophone that plays cylinders, a box of about a dozen cylinders and the humongous horn complete with stand! To make it even better, I found a website that sells belts and connection tubing and cranks so he'll be all ready to roll. (it will all go to my brother)
ReplyDeletePatsy Priebe Thanks for sharing. I love music boxes and have a floor model 1927 Brunswick phonograph with a number of 78 rpm records; an early 1900s Edison table-top phonograph without the horn and a dozen wax cylinders; and a c.1915 Evans player piano with 400+ rolls.
ReplyDeletePatsy Priebe can we have a peak at it patsy before it goes to your brother.
ReplyDeleteDarran Hughes sure! unfortunately it can't make music without those parts, but it's a pretty cool machine just as it is.
ReplyDeleteDoreen Sherlaw what an awesome collection of old music-makers you've got! If you ever wanted to get a horn for your Edison here's a good website

I ordered a crank from him and extra needles.
That player piano of yours sounds like a dream come true with all of those rolls!
Patsy Priebe Packing because your moving? These are wonderful things you are sharing with us. Definitely going into my "Favorites" folder.
ReplyDeleteMargaret Siemers yes, the end of one era and the beginning of another
