The Rosewell Plantation Ruins, Gloucester County, Virginia

We only learned about Rosewell a couple of months ago and thought it would be worth a visit on a pretty spring day. Construction on this 12,000 sq ft home began in 1725 and was finished in 1738. All the bricks were shipped over from England and the 750 acres of. land was a grant from King George I. The mansion remained the property of the Page family for over 100 years. The mansion was all but destroyed by fire in 1916 and there is little left, though it does provide a glimpse of life for one of the First Families of Virginia.

  1. Mike Martin Thank you so very much for re posting this here. I loved the comments you made on the individual photo's too.
Members if you click on a photo you can not only see the picture larger and in more detail, but you can read Mike's comments. (I thought the one about "The Hellmouth" was hysterical!)
