The "Amy Howson" and sister vessel "Comrade" at Ferriby Sluice on the River Ancholme, Lincolnshire. The boats are owned by the Humber Keelboat Society and take people for all day trips, out of the River Ancholme and along the Humber Estuary almost to the North Sea.
My son Michael and I had a trip on "Amy Howson" in 2005. These boats are flat bottomed sailing barges, or "Keelboats" and they were used to take cargo along the Humber Estuary and the east coast of England along the North Sea.
Some went back inland along the Tetney Haven to Tetney Lock were they transferred onto the Louth Navigation Canal and sailed to the River Head at Louth.
