Very interesting! It's a unique subject to photograph as a young person, if you took the pictures. That was very smart! Whoever took them and saved them was wise to photograph this part of industrial history.
A response to Anne and Laurent: I was born in a city with many steel mills perhaps the biggest in Italy then, Sesto San Giovanni in Lombardy now all closed. From there was born my interest in the photos I had taken up in Esch sur Alzette. Now occupied spaces have been replaced by large buildings occupied in part.
italo tagliabue Thank you for the explanation. The steel industry has had a long and important history in parts of the U.S. as well, and many of the plants are closed now. I would like to tour a working steel mill sometime.
Interesting photos. The steel industry in the UK is making news today as further plants may close, tens of thousands could be out of work. So sad to see these industries in decline - and unable to compete with the likes of China.
Thank you !
ReplyDeleteThese photos are also interesting for me as I live in an ex-steel town where everything is closed down !
