  1. Gotta love Frank Lloyd Wright's architecture, John W Poynton. I wonder if that house is still there or if the sea has claimed it.

  2. Mike Martin I checked it out. The basic guts of the house are there, but it is for sale and the listing says..."After extensive renovation" and it doesn't mention Frank at all, so it has bee drastically changed.
The thing I find wrong with Franks work, like quite a few designers, they look wonderful, but are not practical to live in, and require high maintenance when placed on or near water. : )
Considering where it is on the beach, this version won't stick around forever either. But... If you have over 3 Mill to buy it, you most likely have the money to fix it too. : )

  3. My parents had their home designed by his firm. It actually looked a bit like this, huge expanse of windows. And it had a flat roof, in MI! Needless to say whenever it rained or snowed. It had several chronic leaking places. My father spent decades and huge sums of money to try and fix it. He never did...

  4. Margaret Siemers - Thanks, Margaret! I expect one might buy a 2 BR, 1 Bath shack in good shape in Carmel, but I'm tired of paying flood insurance premiums, so I'll pass on Frank's Place.

  5. I actually think I've seen this house when we drove Scenic.  Didn't realize who the architect was.

  7. Oshi Shikigami His homes were notorious for leaks. There's an old story about the owner of Falling Water in Bear Run, PA (which is on a US postage stamp) calling Wright up one night to complain of a leak. Edgar J. Kaufmann was the owner of the home who commissioned Wright to design it. He called him on the phone and said, "I'm sitting in my living room, it's pouring rain and water is dripping on my head." Whereupon Wright replied matter of factly, "Well, move your chair."

  9. John W Poynton Oshi Shikigami this is an interesting "addition" to the house story above.
I love it when members give a bit of history they know.
