Williamsburg, VA

Williamsburg, VA

Not a bad place to spend an afternoon. Best visited between Labor Day and Memorial Day in order to avoid crowds and the Virginia Summer.
Tip o' the hat to my buds Ann Kennedy as I believe Ann has visited W'msburg and also to Cousin Mike Perry in the mother country.

  1. Wonderful collection here and so fun to see after so many years! It is so nice to see a place that hasn't been "Walmarted". Mike, the family (in blog time) is headed there this week:-)

  2. Ann Kennedy - Thanks, Ann. I'd hoped you'd enjoy these. Was it your brother who went to William & Mary?

  3. Mike Martin Yes. I was glad to see your picture of the Magazine. My dad has a similar photo and I had no idea what it was or where it was located. Now I know!

  4. Mike Martin Loved the photos - just read up on Williamsburg, I see it dates back to the early 1600s. Might get there one day - must never say 'never' in life! It would certainly be a place my wife and I would enjoy visiting. Meanwhile, thanks for an insight with your excellent photos.

  5. Mike Perry - Thanks, Mike. Williamsburg was preceded by Jamestown, which was settled in 1607. After a few bad years - the winter of 1609-10 became known as the "Starving Time" when 80+% of the settlers died - marked by poor crop yields, disease and difficult relations with the Indians, the settlers moved up from the swamp on the James River and found a more pleasant locale which became Williamsburg.
