When I saw Oshi Shikigami interesting post about the Nikon microscope, I was reminded of this slide viewer from about 1950. When I was a kid and couldn't wait to see slides projected on the wall, I would use my dad's viewer:-) It still works perfectly, but the image is tiny!

  1. I used to use my dad's version of this to look through his slides, wonder if it is in storage somewhere!

  2. I had several versions of this device over the decades. I found that the magnifier was nowhere near sharp, and rainbow fringed everything. They were built very cheaply, and were prone to fall apart with any serious use. But, seeing as there were so many, some good ones may have snuck through.  :-)

  3. Gene Bowker You can still find them for sale on the secondary market. Shop around, as prices look to be as varied as the companies that were making them. Etsy.com is a good place to check out.

  4. Thrift stores, second hand stores, "antique" stores, Etsy, and eBay. And probably a lot more. Fiarly common item. Enough made, it should not be more than a few dollars at most.
