Were the phone cords looking like this in the 40's? Thought curly cords were later, and colors later still? Hum, have ta check on that one. back soon.
ReplyDeleteOk while curly cords were around in the late 40's color was not a thing that would be used widespread till the mid 50's. I would think this was from (purse) 1970's when Ma Bell stopped owning the equipment and anyone could have things like this. Perhaps even later. I say perhaps because I don't know of any popular time these were around. More of a kitschy DIY thing.

Anyone else know of anything about these purses? You belong to Vintage & Antiques also don't you? Ya can get lots of help over there. More of what they do for a living. Friendly folks. ; )
ReplyDeleteNot sure if they are actual telephone cords or it is just called that because they look similar. They are wound much tighter than any telephone cord from the 70s
ReplyDeleteI wondered that, but hard to tell in a photo.

ReplyDeleteAs I said in my other post reply. What we call things matters. When we go researching we become archaeologists of a sort and dig to find the answers to what we have in hand. Because this was not made of Phone Cord, and because the Phone cord colors like this were much later, It could not have been from the 40's. However, correctly identifying what it is...Yes, it is a 40's purse and I congratulate you on that.
ReplyDeletePlease. for the sake of future people at least use the correct name with the current (apparently) popular name. It will tend to allow you to be held in higher regard by the collectors of this kind of purse, and by other dealers that have the true essence of our industry in their work. As it is, people simply calling it telephone purses are actually hurting your sales.
