a “Punt Gun”- used for duck hunting, it had the potential to kill 50 birds in one fell swoop- it was banned it the late 1860’s.
Not very sportsman like, glad they outlawed it.

ReplyDeleteHard to imagine that that beast was mass produced. Just the logistics of getting it to where the ducks are would be daunting. Probably took a full cup of black powder and ten minutes to re-load the damn thing. Still pretty interesting, Margaret Siemers!

ReplyDeleteGlad you all can appreciate the thing for the uniqueness, history, and humor of the things our ancestors thought were useful. Ann Kennedy I don't think a man ever thought he looked ridiculous when holding a gun. If they saw it they would not use them. : )
