Last one this evening. Also WWll, also carrier unknown to me.

"Every time a plane landed on the wrong carrier, it was tradition to graffiti it before sending it back." was the caption on this one.
Mike Martin will know something about this I have a feeling!
ReplyDeleteAnn Kennedy, +Mike Martin most likely started the tradition! lol (ok, perhaps one of his Uncles...but it does sound like what he would do.)
ReplyDeleteMargaret Siemers and Ann Kennedy - Nope. I was Air Force, not Navy. But this seems like a not unreasonable response to landing on the wrong carrier as long as the white graffiti is easily washed off. I suspect the pilot's callsign was changed to something pretty humiliating and/or derogatory after this.
ReplyDeleteMike Martin Yep, know you were AF, just thought you knew most everything:-)
ReplyDeleteAnn Kennedy - Hah! You're being too kind.
ReplyDeleteBecause its a jet means the photo must be after WW2 - in the early 1950s.
ReplyDeleteTom Brydon Why I like having you around, You too +Mike Martin. Very little either of you don't catch for us "non knowers" (I know that isn't a word, but it works.) Thanks for the heads up on this photo Tom.
