Darran Hughes was asking about the house where my Grandmother lived, and where my mother grew up.
The picture of the kids dancing was late 30s or early 40s. The fellows from the Methodist youth group came and decorated the basement and they had a dance there :)
The other great basement story from that house was the time Grandma Hite was doing the laundry and of course had to throw in every last stitch. The meter man came down to the basement just then -- EEEEEGADS!

The house looks so inviting. That was funny, I bet the meter man had a real shock.
ReplyDeleteThe ceiling decorations, are I take it coloured paper. They all look like they are having some fun.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing these pictures, but what I really love is the anecdote about the meter man! It was truly a safer and simpler time then. Ours used to open the door, shouting "meter reader!" walk right in and march directly through the kitchen to the basement door and down. We didn't think a thing of it! I'm sure he saw plenty by the end of his rounds each day. Great post!
ReplyDeleteJust love the way you tell a story Patsy.
ReplyDeleteMargaret Siemers ;)
ReplyDeleteAmazing and wonderful memories Patsy, and caught on film ,..truly amazing. I would be very proud to have stories like these to share. :-)
ReplyDeleteMatthew Woodall I do like hearing about my mother's life in that house. Many things were so typically 30s and then the time during WWII and all - in ways it is like a book
ReplyDeleteTrue indeed Patsy. :-) There are a couple or three people in our community here, that like you have some amazing stories and photos to go with them that would make excellent reading for a book. We all in our lives have the memories, but with photos too ?..only some have those as well. I have always enjoyed looking at someone's photo album and hearing the stories, and all you guys have some wonderful and amazing ones. :-)
