This refers to my yesterday's post meant to be a little quiz just to let you guess that the photo was posted upside down.
In my archives, this photo is referenced as "Margratten (American) Military Cemetery".
I am sometimes discouraged about taking photos. I have the feeling that every possible place on earth is already on Internet.
"Why should anybody be interested by my poor b/w photo of Margratten, when there are so many better ones on Internet.
The photo hereunder proves the point... It is in colour, and ten times better than mine...
I'm discouraged... I think I'll stop taking photos ! I shall rather go to the pub and drink beer and play cards instead...

  1. The problem with a photo like this is that we don't know who took it, what they were doing there, why it was of interest to them, etc. I would much rather see a less-perfect photo taken by someone I know, than a perfect photo from a perfect stranger anytime! And as for a trip to the pub, that's good for more than poor photographers:-)

  2. Laurent TRUILLET - What Ann Kennedy said. There's plenty of pro photography available to look at but it too often looks sterile, for want of a better word. I definitely prefer a photo with a story attached and especially so when it's not heavily processed in Lightroom or Photoshop.

  3. To Ann and Mike.
    Thanks for your contribution.
I think we all agree together with Margaret : what we like here in this community is the story behind the photographs...
And if you look at my very last post (2 satellite views), I am sure that nobody cares about where I lived, but I only hope that some viewers will find the exercise interesting and that this will trigger them to do the same on their side.

  4. Mike Martin someone famous once said: a photo doesn't lie. But that was a long time ago, before digital photography and Photoshop.
It's not about taking good photos anymore, it's about mastering Photoshop and the likes. That's not photography, that's playing with software.
And I guess that's why most of us here love stuff from the past when they are photos we can be pretty sure (not always) they haven't been messed around with.
