Liege Locomotive Depot

Liege Locomotive Depot
Yesterday, I went out to the locomotive depot and maintenance workshop of our town. It is called Kinkempois.
Here is a photo of a vintage class 62 loco, more than 50 years in service. This class has almost completely disappeared and this is a rare unit remaining in an old livery.
For more photos of my outing, please have a look on my Flickr album.

You will see :
- Construction of the new maintenance building
- The old building to be demolished
- The bare land on which the new tracks are going to be laid
- A variety of locos in front of the maintenance workshop, including the latest type of Siemens locomotives.

  1. I enjoyed seeing these handsome trains. Very nice and good to see close-up.Can you actually walk in the rail yard? We aren't allowed to do that in many places here.

  2. Ann Kennedy I was expecting this question and you were the first to ask.
Theoretically, the answer is "no". But I have been to this place many times, and what I usually do is to show up at the control room and ask for permission. I has never been refused. On the contrary, they like to see people interested in trains. So it is very comfortable to be able to walk about without having to hide.
.And besides that, the train movements are very slow in a depot, and you have to be deaf, blind or stupid to get hit by a train.
In fact, the loco on this post was actually moving (you can see the driver). Most of the others were parked.

  3. Laurent TRUILLET That's good. I would enjoy being that close. I also like the sound that the idling engines make.

  4. Ann Kennedy I can feel your pleasure to talk about trans.
Some day, I'll tell you another story. I have actually been driving a train on about 100 miles. And THAT is strictly forbidden !
