By massive popular request (2 persons), here are my photos of the 1958 World Fair in Brussels (Belgium), called "Expo 58".
This set shows how miserable could be the photos taken by a 14 YO boy with a basic camera having only two settings : "bright" and "cloudy" and using large negatives (code 120 for those who remember).

  1. I'd say you had a very good eye! I like the photo and the scene you chose to capture!

  4. Ann Kennedy Thank you for your praise for the work of a young boy. I admit that the shots are not too bad, but they could be somewhat sharper. Let's blame it on the camera...

  5. Laurent TRUILLET You were wise to save these. I didn't save any of the photos I took as a kid and I always had a camera with me. I think I probably pasted them in scrapbooks and on my wall and then just grew out of them. Mainly, I would put a stamp on them and mail to friends, something I still do when I print a photo:-)

  6. A good set of photos. I remember the 120 and also had a camera with only those cloudy and sunny settings. But, whatever, you did a good job with the equipment of that period.

  7. Ann Kennedy It is a pleasure for me to have someone like you to talk about these things. Most of the people around me just don't bother...
I have always kept ALL my photos, perfectly dated and referenced. Not only paper photos, but also all their negatives (and slides). This enabled me to scan them all straight from the negatives. I also acted like a funnel. All the family photos and souvenirs of my aging family gradually dying away are now in my archives.
But I don't want to bore anybody with this, so I'll come back to the subject gradually.

  8. Laurent TRUILLET I am never bored by such discussion, but often short on time! It troubles me that I am not able to add comments to the many posts I enjoy, but I'm working on getting better at it:-) There are many fine posts on this community, some serious and some just for fun, as there are in many communities. I'm finding that I need to focus on only a few at a time. My interests have always outnumbered the time I have to pursue them:-) Today I am traveling to an Amish settlement, hoping to photograph their beautiful farmland.  Have a wonderful day.

  9. Ann Kennedy I fully understand so I'll refrain from adding on your reply, in order to save your time. Don't answer this one ! A + will do !

  10. Laurent TRUILLET I will answer in her stead. And say again how wonderful the photo's are and how happy I am that you shared them. (But who was the good looking young man with the cigarette! Lets hope he has learned it is a hurtful habit and put it away! ; )  )
Your musings of the past are not tedious, but greatly enjoyed. You are welcome to post and think out loud any time. : )

  12. Margaret Siemers Hello Margaret,
Thank you for your kind encouragements. I have always been anxious (and I stil am) that my posts would be of any interest to anybody. But now, this anxiety decreases because I have always had friendly conversations with the people who cared to comment on my posts.
Margaret (and all the other regulars), thank you for being what you are... I'll tell you some day why I an happy to write on this community (another surprise story...)
The youg man with a cigarette was the English student who came 3 weeks on "student's exchange" to our home, after I stayed 3 weeks with him in England. He is the boy who doesn't smile in the album "Chairlift Galore". We lost contact with him after his stay.
