1913.

1913. I love this card for the message written on the back. "Rather a dreary day here, but a happy Easter just the same. I believe the happiest Easter I ever had. Some day I'll tell you why it's such a happy, happy Easter." I'm still wondering!
...and you'll never know the answer !

Laurent TRUILLET True, but I can imagine whatever I choose and that can become the story:-)
ReplyDeleteAnn Kennedy I've got my story :
ReplyDeleteThis card definitely written by a girl or by a woman (boys don't write and men are never so enthusiastic !). She is happy because she met a new boyfriend or she is going to be engaged. Why do I think that way ? Because she is too reserved to tell the above reason on paper. If it had been for a gift or for an invitation to a party, she would have told !
What is your story ?
Laurent
Laurent TRUILLET My story is that a month earlier, this intelligent young woman had joined others in the women's suffrage parade. She has just been asked to organize a similar march in her locality!
ReplyDeleteAnn Kennedy You are cheating because you knew the actual story !

Laurent TRUILLET No, I just thought there might have been some significant historical event in March, 1913, so I checked and sure enough! So why not pretend this was the circumstance. I truly have no idea what really happened.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if she ever did tell the secret.
ReplyDeleteMike Perry If she did, it certainly wouldn't be safe with any of us:-)
ReplyDeleteThis remind me of a little joke :
ReplyDeleteA manager said to his secretary :"Please write on this note that it is strictly confidential. I want the whole company to know about it"...

Any family born around 7 or 8 months after this card was sent. A refined lady would not had written that she was "with Child" on a card either.
ReplyDeleteShe would have at least written a proper letter to close family, and sent birth announcements when it happened. Being (that way) was not talked about hardly ever...I wonder why? Oh well, It is fun to speculate.
Margaret Siemers I think your story is probably the good one. Never thought of it !
ReplyDeleteBut there is one thing on which we all agree : it was written by a woman !
