Vintage life in my town (Liege - Belgium) !

Vintage life in my town (Liege - Belgium) !
Here we see two women and two men towing a barge on the river Meuse.
The barge can be seen under the left arch of the bridge.
The bridge gives us the period. It was built in 1860 and destroyed during WW1 in 1914. So we can be sure that this photo is more than 100 years old.

  1. Ann Kennedy In those days, it was often women doing this kind of hard work, and in this case, I'm even surprised to see two men on the job, although the last one doesn't seem to be pulling too hard !
I've got more photos of hard jobs mainly for women. They'll be posted in due time...

  2. Gosh, yes, hard work. I've always associated horses for pulling barges.

  3. Great post Laurent. By the way, I have a dear friend in Ronse. :-)

  4. Matthew Woodall I don't go in that direction very often. Only once a year, I drive on the highway a few miles from Ronse on my way to Calais and the ferry to England.
