To me, research is a great part of the fun of digging into the past.
To me, research is a great part of the fun of digging into the past.
I have sent this post NOT for the photographs, but for the story behind them.
The first photo represents my mother, grandmother and aunt. I've got the date : 1941, but not the place. I know my mother worked as a housemaid in several houses before she married. So I browsed into the family archives to try and find the locations. I found three or four that could answer the question. For some of them, I had the street name but not the house number. So I used Street View and walked virtually in those streets, looking sideways at the houses. Then I saw a window that matched exactly the original (photo 2), and finally Street View gave me a full image of the house.
As I said : research is a great part of the fun !

Good research Laurent. That does make it a lot of fun,..especially after digging so hard like you probably did. Cool post. :-)
ReplyDeleteMatthew Woodall I hope you also have a lot of archives to dig in, and that you can share all the fun of it !

Well done, Laurent TRUILLET! Nice that the building they stood in front of 74 years ago is still there.
ReplyDeleteMike Martin Research is a never ending story. Please see my new post.

Research can be enjoyable, especially family research. I wish, though, I'd asked a lot more questions when my parents and other relatives were still with us.
ReplyDeleteMike Perry I'll come back on this subject another day, as I have done quite a bit and will let you know.
