To conclude my chapter on "Our Beautiful Bridges", here is another interesting one.
To conclude my chapter on "Our Beautiful Bridges", here is another interesting one. It is famous for being the first ever bridge IN THE WORLD to use reinforced concrete. It was built for the 1905 World Fair in Liège (Belgium). See how thin it is in the middle, and during the exhibition, there was even a tram line passing over it.
The photo was taken in 1905, but the bridge still stands exactly the same today.
I have asked 10 people in my neighborhood about what makes this bridge famous. Nobody knew !
That is how History dies away...

It really is a pretty bridge and it's a shame its origins are lost on the local people. Probably a case of not appreciating something that has always been present.
ReplyDeleteMike Martin You are probably right.
ReplyDeleteExcept for it's history, this bridge just looks like any other bridge !
