THE LAUNCH OF THE BERGENSFJORD IN 1955
This was a photo amongst my parents albums. My mother originated from Wallsend (near Newcastle) which was once known for its shipbuilding. Many fine ships were built at the Swan, Hunter shipyard including the Mauritania and Carpathia. Sadly shipbuilding has now ceased in the area.

H.R.H Princess Astrid of Norway launched the Bergensfjord in July 1955. 

In the photo it's interesting to see the men watching the launch high up on the girders - there weren't quite so many Health and Safety regulations back then!
