A HANDSOME FELLOW .Those Navy seamen were totally wonderful.England had one of the most powerful Navy IN THE world.Being French I must admit this fact,we were defeated at the battle of Trafalgar.Lived 17 years in England, had four (limies) children. This expression comes from the time the British seamen ate lime,so not to get diseased gums while at sea.Lovely talking to you Cherio
Oh My Yes, not just for our sake, you may be able to find out that his ship played a major roll in winning an important battle. You should know this and write it down for your sake and future generations.
Just for a bit of further info Mike Perry Margaret Siemers http://www.naval-history.net/WW2MemoirAndSo12.htm. As far as we can ascertain he was a PoW in Italy. The piece naval history mentions my grandfathers homecoming his name was Venning.
Also he was decorated with the Africa Star, Atlantic Star, the 1939--1945 star and my cousin has mentioned something about a King George medal, these medals only came to light last year so was a surprise to his grandchildren,
theresa cookney Looks like Friday the 13th was a good luck day for your grandfather and others. I have not read it all but am going to come back to it when I have time. I love war history accounts.
Marvelous photo!

ReplyDeleteIt's more than just a photo, it's history. As Margaret Siemers has suggested it should be recorded for the generations that follow.
