  2. This photo was taken by a street photographer, so it is completely unprepared.
Street photographers were quite common in those days, and for some families, they were just about the only way to get a photo done.
We may come back to the subject of street photographers another day.

  3. Virginia M B It's incredible ! When this photo was taken, who could have thought a fraction of a second that someone in Southern Pennsylvania would some day find it beautiful !
Our home didn't even have the telephone !
We are living in a fantastic era, and it is great fun to play with all the opportunities available...

  4. Laurent TRUILLET I wouldn't have liked someone to jump in front of me and take my picture. When we lived overseas in 1953 I was very distressed by people staring at us as strangers. No wonder you weren't pleased under that circumstance.

  5. Ann Kennedy I quite understand you and I was probably feeling the same,
Let me say again that I think street photographers is a good "vintage" subject to come back to. I've got a few other shots, and maybe other members of the community might join in...

  7. You and I had the same hair! Mine was a dark red. How about yours?

  8. Charlotte Issyvoo I was never very much worried about the color of my hair, only the quantity !
I think they were medium brown during my childhood, and after that, they grew darker.
When I was a teenager, in the years of "Jailhouse Rock" and "Love me tender", I grew a banana like Elvis. I used Brylcream and I always had a comb in my hand.
After that, when I had to wear glasses, the fashion was for thick dark rims, and I was a perfect copy of Buddy Holly.
And now, my hair is white or silver.
At least, what's left of it !
Vintage photos will appear here some day...

  9. Sounds like you knew what you were doing with your hair. I'll bet it looked good. I'm Jewish and my hair is a classic "Jewfro." I know so many Jewish women who hate their hair but I've always loved mine and I never straighten it. I came of age in the 80s, when women were all perming their hair in an attempt to have hair like mine, so that helped with my hair vanity. I'm 44 now and any greys I have are so few that nobody but me can see them. I think I'm going to be one of those very slow to grey, as seems common on my Jewish side of the family. I got my father's hair. His is all gone but I'm a gal so I get to keep mine!
