FRY'S CHOCOLATE - 1880

FRY'S CHOCOLATE - 1880
An advertisement from around 1880 for Fry's chocolate and cocoa. In 1853 they started to make Fry's Cream Sticks (in Britain), the name being altered to Fry's Cream in 1866 - and it's still being made today. It's my favourite chocolate style bar, so I've added what it looks like today underneath the advert. It's very sweet with dark chocolate.

I don't remember Fry's, but I sure do miss Cadbury's. The real English Cadbury's, not faux-made in the US Cadbury's.
ReplyDeleteI love the then and now aspect on this. It is an education for us in the US as we don't see either version much if at all. Thanks Mike Perry
ReplyDeleteWell I'll be Mike Martin I had always thought Cadbury's was made in Canada. However I see that they sold out to Craft Foods in 2010 and they licensed the right to make the chocolate under the name of Cadbury's by Hershey Foods. Such an education we get here.
ReplyDeleteMike Martin There have been moans in UK how some Cadbury's products have altered because of US.
ReplyDeleteMargaret Siemers Some Cadbury's products just aren't the same - hope Fry don't go the same way.
ReplyDeleteLots of history with Cadbury's:
Started in 1824 when John Cadbury opened a grocer’s shop at 93 Bull Street, Birmingham. Among other things, he sold cocoa and drinking chocolate, which he prepared himself using a pestle and mortar.
