ReplyDeleteThis one is magnificient !
ReplyDeleteFor your information, the practice of making such models started in France as early as the 17th century (Louis XIV), mainly for military reasons. For more information, just enter "plan relief" in Google and look for "images". There are also two articles on Wikipedia (in French and in English).
I have seen several "plans relief" while visiting the French "châteaux", but none of them as large as the one on New York !

Great post! I guess I would love for the panorama to be exactly as it was originally. I'm sure that a digital overlay could be produced which would allow us to see it ever-changing. I join them in wishing for a major donor!
