Another post on the subject of "What Was I Doing When Margaret Siemers Was Being Photographed With Her Brother"...

Another post on the subject of "What Was I Doing When Margaret Siemers Was Being Photographed With Her Brother" (Good title for a novel !).
This is the US pavillion at the 1958 Brussels World Fair.
The most exciting exhibit in this pavillion was COLOR TV ! In fact, it was the first time any European could see a color image on TV. I remember people were queueing (as I did !) to see it...
Now if at least 500 members of this community require it, I'll post some more of my photos of the 1958 World air in Brussels...

  1. Madges Hatbox I will, but not immediately.
I am the author of the last three posts in this community, and I fear that I am over-doing it a bit !

  2. I was ten years old that summer but I do remember the Brussels World Fair. Growing up in Kentucky meant "Brussels" only meant Brussels Sprouts for which I had zero appreciation as a kid.
My wife visited "Bruxelles" with a girlfriend once. I've only been to Brugge/Bruges, Zeebrugge and Antwerp. I remember having a glass of an exquisite nectar called Stella Artois in the Antwerp train station.

  4. Matthew Woodall Glad you popped up. I am asking you to go through your mom's photo's and share one with us of you as a small child. You can have others in it if you can't find one of you alone. Take a photo of the photo if you have to, (good practice for your new passion of photography) We have been waiting since last year to see one, now you have no excuse. Mmmwaaahhhahahahah

  5. Laurent TRUILLET I am with Madges Hatbox  on the worlds fair things. Do it, Do it ! In your own time of course.

Did you know you can make an album too. Oh Yes, you certainly can. that way one post, many photo's of a subject and you can even place comments on each individually. Rather cool actually.

  6. Margaret Siemers Yes, I will do it very soon.
But before I do, I would like yourself and the other regulars on this community to think about the origin of our posts, and I am NOT talking about copyrights.
When I see Margaret rolling paste on the kitchen table, I don't need a certificate of origin. But if you wanted a good photo of the American Pavillion at the Brussels World fair, you could go on Google and you would find a million, most of them better than mine !
I imagine that if you are interested in someone's photos of a public place or event, it's because they are THEIR photos and that you would like to hear about a story behind it.
So this is what I shall try to do (and not forget).
On my future posts, I shall mention either  "My photo" or "Internet" or "Scanned Paper Original "
To start with the above photo, I could have mentioned "My photo", whereas our "beautiful bridges of Liege" that you saw previously were "Internet", although I do have some personal shots as well.
    There is no obligation !
We shall continue tomorrow, because it's now almost midnight and I'm going to bed !

  7. Laurent TRUILLET Good night Dear Friend, may you slumber in the arms of Angels.

And yes, it is the point of your perspective in those original photo's that we (I at least) like. When we hear the stories it is more like being there. Every place has an official photo, but it is the unofficial ones that can capture the imagination the most.

talk to you when you awake.

  8. Mike Martin We are not obliged to appreciate Brussels Sprouts just because we are Belgians, and I don't like them either.
On the other hand, Stella Artois was my main beverage when I was a student !

  9. Margaret Siemers Thank you for suggesting me to do an album. My other post on "Chairlift Galore" is my first one, and it was easy to create.
