Another favorite dusty book, 1916.
Another favorite dusty book, 1916. The title is not incorrectly spelled, but I think it's an interesting use in this case. A rime is a part of a word having to do with spelling patterns like mate, late, date, etc. And of course they rhyme. Rhymes sound alike, but can be spelled differently.
Thanks for this English lesson.
ReplyDeleteIn French, we have only one word : "Rime"

I know of the word 'rime' from "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner" by Samuel Taylor Coleridge but always thought it meant a 'hoar frost'. Didn't know of your word explanation - interesting. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteMike Perry - Agree. When I was in the flying game, clear ice only added weight to the aircraft, but rime ice added weight and increased drag. Both were to be avoided.
ReplyDeleteIf you're takeoff's ever delayed for de-icing, please don't complain!
Mike Martin Thanks Mike - interesting and will take your advice about any delays for de-icing - never knew that. I've only ever been a passenger!
