1944, a soldier on a 72-hr.

1944, a soldier on a 72-hr. pass and breakfast in bed. For those of you who know a WWII veteran (or any veteran for that matter), take time to care, to listen carefully and to learn some history! A win-win for everyone.

  1. The nod to chastity and high moral standards is noted as he's in a twin bed and the woman has no ring. Pretty fast in those days for her to enter his bedroom for any reason!
Re veterans and our stories, where shall I begin?  OK, it was still frigid in Amarillo in May of '68 and this mean ol' sergeant was yelling at me for no reason!!

  2. I thought that was his mom:-) What did you do to get yelled at?!

  3. You are right about listening to what the veterans have to say. That also goes for the lives of older family members too. I wished I'd asked a lot more questions.

  4. Mike Martin I have to agree with Ann Kennedy I took it to be his mom also. However when blowing up the photo, there is just a hint of a suggestion of a ring on her finger. A shadow that may or may not be caused by a gold ring.

Also, if he turns his head he is going to get an eye full, so it could be the maid.

The point is... it's a advert for bed sheets that are white and bright (until the resident bed wetter gets hold of them.)
The woman was more than likely designed to be anyone you wanted her to be. Mother, Wife, Maid, Lover, Roommate,  that is how good they were in those days with the subliminal suggesting in these adds.

Yes Mike, tell do tell us what you were getting hollered at about? Could it have been trying to start a controversy someplace hmm?  lol ; )

  5. Sven Wagner We will give you dibs (priority) on breakfast in bed. I have a feeling once word gets out all the men will be asking for that. : )

  6. Mike Perry Where they are so we shall also be. Teaching respect for the Hero, for the elderly, for our ancestors is important and I thank you and Ann Kennedy for that reminder.

  7. Ann Kennedy and Margaret Siemers - Well, no one gets through basic without getting yelled at. Usually it's en masse but the sergeants are always willing to provide individual instruction as needed. Old Amarillo AFB closed a few months after I left, but if you look at the east side of Rick Husband Amarillo Airport on Google Earth, you can still see the footprints of the old buildings.
