Vintage photographs. This is a picture of my great-grand parents and their children. It's the only photo I know of my great-grand mother. She died of a lightening strike a few years later. My gg-father (right) immigrated from Germany in 1866 at about 21 years of age. The generations where long in this part of my family. He died at ~85 years old (before my father, his grandson, was born). My grandfather is on far left.
How good to have such a photo going back so far. Makes ancestors seem more personal.

Genealogy can present some strange things. It really twists my mind when I think that my great-grand father was born in 1845 and yet I remember visiting my great-grand mother (his in-law) when I was a kid in ~1970 before she died.
ReplyDeleteMy calendar just reminded me it's my grandfather's birthday today. The boy on the far left of the photo. Born in 1896.
