This would have been pre-1959, when Alaska and Hawaii became states. Great art! The long shadows suggest the sun's setting and they'd better get home before the black ice forms on the road's one cleared lane.
What gets me is what happens when a car comes up the road the other direction. One lane open...perhaps you were to just stay home in snow country.
