CREEPY PHOTO Is it just me, or does this vintage photo have a definite creepiness about it? Would you trust the girl ... perhaps it's just those over ripe, red cheeks and lips.
It's a toy, probably. Maybe a little red car or truck. I like the edit. It reminds me of photos from the 30's and 40's. Reminds me a tad of my own Mother back in the day.
Wanwalee Teerakin I can't decide - the shirt or blouse looks more like the style for a girl but as Barbara Newson says if he/she is wearing shorts then it's probably a girl.
Boys would wear those little jackets and short outfits. Buster brown shoes. The girls had frilly dresses or tailored look with matching coats, hat and gloves with little purse! hahaha Just by observing her clothing and hair. I'd venture this is 1940's. I know I"m really aging myself here.. I'm a product of the 50's..LOL
Ann Kennedy So you think it's the boy's mother - if he's about to ask for something big? I thought she was younger. Looks like I can't tell ages either ;-)
If you notice Mike Perry , boys tend to take after Mother's facial traits. Girls the opposite, Dad's. Just nuances, mainly. It can be a mix of eyes and smile or facial feature and nose..
Barbara Newson Interesting, but not always so. If I look at my son's children for example - a boy and a girl - I'd say the opposite. My grandson is very much like my son and my graddaughter is like my daughter-in-law.
I am impressed. I don't think Ive met anyone who knows as much about this subject as you do. You are truly well informed and very intelligent. You wrote something that people could understand and made the subject intriguing for everyone. Really, great blog you have got here. footcare drill equipment
I found it a really cute one.
ReplyDeleteWhat is that red device in the woman's hand? Something to keep the child in a stupor?

ReplyDeleteWanwalee Teerakin Oh ... really? Just me then! :-)
ReplyDeleteMike Martin Yes, as Barbara Newson comments, I think it's some sort of toy. But whatever, stupor is a good word!
ReplyDeleteI think there are 2 roses: one rose painted in scarlet with black edge, the other one is colorless.
ReplyDeleteI think you're right. I think it's two roses. I bet the kid picked 'em!! LOL
ReplyDeleteWanwalee Teerakin Barbara Newson Could well be two roses, I think you are right. The child: a girl I suppose?
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking a boy. Only reason I say this is his hair and a girl in that day and age would have a dress on. Looks like he's wearing shorts.
ReplyDeleteBarbara Newson I can't make up my mind - I suppose it could be a boy's hair style.
ReplyDeleteI really do not know what gender this child is.
ReplyDeleteGirls had long hair quite often in this time period. They had pony tails, braids and knee high stockings. Or even bows in their hair.

ReplyDeleteThe child's look is a bit detached somehow, maybe thinking it's a good time to ask for something really big:-)
ReplyDeleteBarbara Newson I bow to your superior knowledge. And there I was thinking I could always tell the difference between the sexes! :)

ReplyDeleteThey were hand tinted from tubes of color... My mom had a set. Before color film.

ReplyDeleteRandall Laue Thank you - you've just jogged my memory I can vaguely remember my mother having something similar. I'd forgotten all about that.
