FREDERICK WILLIAM ENGLISH

FREDERICK WILLIAM ENGLISH
This is my maternal grandfather when he was a young man, I was told he was about 21 when this photo was taken.

I never knew him, as he died before I was born. He was much older than my grandmother - a widower when he married her. They lived in Wallsend in the north-east of England at 7 Wilberforce Street.

He was a dapper man by all accounts. I have several of his gold tie pins, mostly with horseshoe motifs and one with a tiger's tooth.

Comments

  1. He does look quite the dapper young chap, right down to the gloves in his right hand.

  4. P.J. Schaberger It's strange that, though I never knew him, I've always felt close to him - a sort of affinity.

  5. Patsy Priebe A little oddity: I've always had a Buddha ornament on my mantelpiece for as long as I can remember. The last time my mother came to our house before she died (she was quite ill) she said how she had always thought it was strange that I had a Buddha on the mantelpiece as her father (the man in the photo) always had a Buddha on his mantelpiece. She'd never mentioned it previously. Perhaps this is why I've always felt an affinity with him.

  6. Thex Dar It's strange because both my grandfathers were called Frederick William and when I did a bit of searching my family tree I found that both of their fathers were called John.
