The "new" Fender Telecaster...originally called the Broadcaster, but had to change the name as Gretsch was already using that name for a drumset. Ironically, Fender now owns Gretsch.
+Eric Cheney, it would be 1951..that's when the guitar was rebranded as the Telecaster. There was a brief period just before this that the guitar carried no name at all - Broadcaster or Telecaster. Nicknamed the "Nocaster", they are very rare and quite pricey to obtain!
ReplyDeleteOh Man. My great, but deceased friend, +Jerry Swallow, played one of these guitars on my CD. He used to tour with #glencampbell , and was the leader of #tanyatucker s band, when she was a big deal in #countrymusic . He also used to play with #randymeisner of the Eagles. He was a quality guy, and really knew how to play that guitar. I miss him. Gone too soon. His #telecaster looked like the one in the ad you've shared to start this thread. And he played it through an old #fendertubeamplifier . Sorry to hashtag a few times, but he was a guy worth remembering, as much as the guitar that he played. And your thread made me think of him.
ReplyDeleteJohn Campbell , Sorry for your loss, my friend... sounds like he was a great guy; he will live on as long as he is remembered~
