Stout Scarab (1935): The 1st minivan in the world. The 1st car with a fully independent suspension. More http://bit.ly/1skLrWY
"William B. Stout (William Bushnell Stout) was the first American aircraft designer to build an all-metal commercial airplane, which became the ancestor of the family of the legendary Ford Tri-Motors. Aviator to the bone, he sought to apply to aircraft design principles to automotive design. And that he did it! His motto: "Simplify and facilitate!" Even the aerodynamic design of the body of his Scarab is reminiscent of airplane design and assembly. The body of the car was made of aluminum and a Ford Motor V -8 was located at the rear, covered by a wide grille. The Scarab also had the world's first fully independent suspension. Due to its huge wheelbase and rear engine arrangement, and the the Scarab's completely flat floor, it had a large internal volume. This beautiful interior of the world's first minivan resembles a hotel room. The rear sofa is almost two meters wide. It's front seats turn into tables, a feature of many of today's minivans. And in the 1930s it was just fantastic."
