75 YRS AGO THIS WEEK: Gelett Burgess: artist, critic, poet, author, humorist & inventor of the "blurb" - Schlitz beer drinker! http://bit.ly/W6ut1g
This is an amazing Schlitz beer advertisement written by Gelett Burgess on the topic of "hobbies" dripping with history and some good humor. I found myself craving a Schlitz as I read it. Much the way I used to enjoy eating a bowl of cereal while reading the back of the box it came in. My! How much advertising has changed in this age of the internet and the 5 millisecond attention span.
"In a class apart are the true Hobbystocrats who invent their own unique diversions. Beau Nash was one - he delighted in stunts such as sending for an ambulance to take a bruised camellia to the hospital. A modern example is the fellow who makes a hobby of blowing square soap bubbles."
Find a Schlitz near you at ww.schlitzbrewing.com and enjoy this read. Cheers!
The Guinness Book of World Records lists his collection of synonyms for the word "drunken".
